FOUR Grenfell Tower residents were accidentally left to die in an upper-floor flat after a calamitous mix-up during the rescue effort, an inquiry has heard.

Eight tenants from the 14th floor had been told by firefighters to hunker down in flat 113 and await rescue – but only four were taken out.

It emerged at the Grenfell Tower inquiry on Thursday that the team tasked with saving them were under the impression only a family of three were in the flat.

But, in an extraordinary divergence of accounts, rescuer Peter Herrera had his story called into question by survivor Omar al-Haj Ali, whose brother Mohammad died that night.

THE family of a man who was bludgeoned to death in his own home were told of his killer’s temporary release from prison on the anniversary of his murder, Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said.

She told MSPs Mike Mosey’s relatives were given the news in a letter from the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) just six weeks after the authority wrongly told them John Mackie would not be let out of jail.

Speaking at First Minister’s Questions at Holyrood, Ms Davidson said the case – alongside others – demonstrates the need for ministers “to act decisively now to show victims and their families that we are listening”.

A COCKAPOO called Corbyn named after the Labour leader has topped a public poll.

Jeremy Corbyn finds the name “highly amusing” and has even spoken to his canine namesake via a video call, the dog’s owner and shadow employment minister Mike Amesbury said.

Red-coated Corbyn was crowned the people’s champion following an online vote ahead of the annual Westminster Dog of the Year competition, which is organised by the Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club and held outside the Houses of Parliament.
