A man will appear in court charged with the murder of midwife Samantha Eastwood.

Michael Stirling, 32, from Cromer Road, Stoke-on-Trent, will appear at North Staffordshire Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Staffordshire Police said.

Stirling is reported to be the brother-in-law of Ms Eastwood’s ex-fiance John Peake.

Households across the UK are overpaying on their energy bills to the tune of £4 billion each year, according to new analysis.

Research has found that 12 million families are on standard variable tariffs with the Big Six energy suppliers, and overpay by an average of £350 a year.

Families in the South East and East of England are overpaying by the most, according to the analysis by energy supplier Bulb.

A powerful earthquake has struck the Indonesian tourist island of Lombok, killing at least 91 people and shaking neighbouring Bali.

Authorities said on Monday that rescuers still had not reached some hard-hit areas and the death toll could climb.

It was the second deadly quake in a week to hit Lombok. A July 29 quake killed 16 people and damaged hundreds of houses, some of which collapsed in Sunday evening’s magnitude 7.0 temblor, killing those inside.
