Theresa May faces a leadership crisis after David Davis savaged the Government’s approach to Brexit while dramatically quitting as the minister responsible for the UK’s departure from the European Union.

His resignation was warmly welcomed by hardline Eurosceptics in the Tory ranks who were already expressing reservations about Mrs May’s leadership after her Cabinet agreed a plan which would keep the UK closely tied to Brussels.

The Prime Minister now faces a stormy meeting with Tory MPs and peers in Parliament on Monday evening as she tries to keep her fragile administration together.

The operation to rescue a group of boys and their football coach from a flooded cave in Thailand could resume on Monday.

Four boys were brought to the surface on Sunday, more than two weeks after the group were trapped underground.

The Thai official leading the rescue operation, which has involved British divers, said it has gone “better than expected” and that the healthiest boys have been taken out first.

Authorities said the next phase could begin at any time during a 10-hour window that began at around 7am (1am BST) on Monday.

A mother-of-three has died after she and her partner were exposed to the nerve agent Novichok.

Scotland Yard said they have launched a murder investigation after Dawn Sturgess, 44, died in hospital on Sunday evening.

Her partner Charlie Rowley, 45, is still in a critical condition after the couple fell ill in Amesbury, Wiltshire, last Saturday.
