BMW will recall 312,000 UK vehicles at risk of an electrical fault that has been linked to a fatal crash.

The manufacturer will contact owners of the affected models – BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, Z4 and X1 petrol and diesel models made between March 2007 and August 2011 – in the next three weeks, a spokesman said.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) said last week BMW had failed to alert UK authorities to 19 cases of electrical faults in one of its models.

BOSSES have defended the BBC’s use of a helicopter during coverage of a police raid on Sir Cliff Richard’s home following a child sex assault allegation.

Lawyers representing the BBC on Wednesday told a judge overseeing a High Court trial that shots had been taken from the air to illustrate the story.

Barrister Gavin Millar QC, who leads the BBC’s legal team, told Mr Justice Mann that footage broadcast had shown what police were doing.

BEAVERS can help reduce soil erosion and pollution in rivers, research on a family of the mammals in south-west England suggests.

The study looked at beavers which have lived in a fenced site at a secret location in west Devon since 2011 as part of a trial by Devon Wildlife Trust to assess their impact on wildlife and water management and quality.

The aquatic mammals have built 13 dams on the site, creating a series of ponds along what was once a small stream.
