A MAN in his 30s has been arrested following a crash between a car and lorry on the A4103, which saw a teenager die at the scene.

The man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving when driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and remains in custody.

Bystanders had initially attempted to give the casualty CPR following the crash in Storridge, near Millbank Garage, just before 7.55am today (March 5), prior to emergency crews arriving.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said, however, “it became apparent that nothing could be done to save him”.

Police are now calling for witnesses to the collision, which involved a black Renault Clio and a white Iveco lorry.

The ambulance spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find the car driver, a man, in cardiac arrest.

“Bystanders had already commenced CPR which ambulance staff continued as well as administering advanced life support.

“However, sadly it became apparent that nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the lorry, a man, was uninjured in the incident and was discharged at the scene following assessment from ambulance staff.”

One ambulance, a paramedic officer and two MARS (Mercia Accident Rescue Service) doctors attended the scene.

Fire crews from Hereford & Worcester Fire Service were also at the scene, with a road block in place for several hours now having been removed.

The crash and resultant blockage caused severe delays on the A4103, the main Hereford to Worcester road.

Police tweeted morning, warning drivers of heavy traffic on Birchwood Road junction and that a diversion was in place from Cradley to Bromyard.

A motorist caught up in the traffic, told the Worcester News, yesterday morning: "There are huge tailbacks, which are causing chaos on the A4103."

He said he could not see the crash scene, but there was a mass of emergency vehicles which passed him, in what he described as a "blue light fest".

He said police were helping some motorists turn around prior to the blockade.

If you witnessed the collision or saw the two vehicles prior to this, contact police on 101 quoting reference 72s of March 5.
