AS part of the Worcester Warriors Community Foundation 'Only Girls Allowed' initiative, 15 women attended an event at Worcester Fire Station.

The community initiative gives women the opportunity to get back into activity through a range of sports and activities with the sessions normally taking place at the High Performance Centre at Sixways.

Each participant was kitted up in Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service equipment and participated in three activities: a command task involving multiple pieces of equipment, rescuing a casualty from the top of the training tower via the tunnels and hose running.

Station Commander Lee Watson, HWFRS's lead organiser for the event, said: "It is great to be working with this Worcester Warriors community initiative. "The night was a huge success and it was great to see so many women trying out aspects of training that our firefighters perform."

I would especially like to thank Watch Commander Rebecca Fawkes and Red Watch for their support in organising and facilitating the event."

He continued: "We are currently recruiting on-call firefighters and we hope this taster session allowed the women who took part to not only feel as though they could take on the challenge and become a firefighter, but also help to spread the word to their friends and family."

Laura Bolon, Warriors Community Education Officer said: "This has been a great opportunity for the women attending the OGA programme, and provided an alternative evening to the usual sessions we have on offer, and the feedback I have had from all involved was very positive. It was great to see them all tackling the activities with confidence and big smiles on their faces."
