PUBSPY timed his trip this week at a Saturday lunchtime, expecting to see it heaving ahead of a big football match.

However, PS had not checked the diary and saw instead a mostly deserted bar and only Scottish Premier League action, which doesn't attract the people of Worcester in their dozens.

Undeterred, PS was served straight away, opting for a breakfast burger with chips and a Fosters. Costing the measly sum of £8.22, with burgers 50 percent off.

For such a price, it would be unfair for PS to expect gourmet quality or Michelin star food.

As PS waited for food to be served, it was noticeable that the pub was caked in sporting memorabilia, from football and rugby shirts to displaying the badges of Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa. I'll let you decide who the odd one out is there.

PS had visited the pub once before whilst not undercover, for a Euro 2016 game between England and Wales, it was a rather different atmosphere then, with the pub making a killing from 'Vardy Bombs' and even a Vardy cocktail in tribute to the England striker, which seemed to include every sweet alcoholic drink you could think of.

I couldn't find any evidence they were still selling this however and PS didn't want to give his cover away by asking.

The decor of the pub is laid out specifically for sport with screens showing various different sports, including rugby, tennis, golf, cricket and football.

The outside area also has screens, making it a perfect place to watch sport in the summer.

The Sunday Carvery was well advertised as the city centre's only Sunday Carvery. PS will have to investigate if this is correct.

It also rather surprisingly advertised Ben and Jerry's ice cream at the bar. Not something I usually associate with pubs.

Today it just seemed to be the hardcore regulars tucking into their fry-ups, perhaps to get over Friday night escapades.

When the burger arrived, PS had an important decision to make as the sheer size of the burger meant a knife and fork certainly had to be considered.

After a short deliberation, PS headed for the cutlery and a bottle of ketchup rather than a small dish, which certainly had him in a good mood.

At the aforementioned price, there was certainly a low price per calorie ratio.

It was certainly a difficult eat, with the burger piled high with egg, sausage and bacon.

Whilst it was not the same standard as other pubs the spy has visited, it was a very decent burger cooked exactly as PS would want, with the runny egg met with the PS stamp of approval.

The chips were crispy and cooked to perfection whilst PS had a demolished the tray of baked beans before he remembered he was supposed to take a picture of his food.

It was an extensive plate of food, but PS just about managed to finish, as a man who likes to take on a challenge.

On the whole, whilst Mode wouldn't be the place to take a partner for an anniversary dinner, it certainly does the job you hope from it at such a reasonable price.
