LOVE Island viewers would have been exposed to millions of images of contestants smoking and of tobacco-related images during the run of the reality show, new research has warned.

During the ITV2 series, in which young people were obliged to couple up to remain on the show, contestants were frequently shown smoking or holding packs of cigarettes and lighters.

More stringent curbs on smoking images on television are urgently needed, according to research published online in the journal Tobacco Control.

BRITISH-born actor John Mahoney, who starred as Martin Crane in hit US sitcom Frasier, has died, his manager said.

The 77-year-old, who appeared in the long-running show between 1993 and 2004, died in Chicago.

Mahoney earned legions of fans for his portrayal of the cranky Marty, father of Kelsey Grammer’s Frasier.

It follows a shorter teaser for Solo: A Star Wars Story, which was broadcast during the Super Bowl and showed a young Solo getting a hug from a younger Chewbacca.

TV watchdog Ofcom has launched an investigation into One Night With My Ex following complaints that the show featured a “potentially emotionally abusive” relationship.

Former couples spend the night alone in a luxury apartment to “confront their past” and decide whether to get back together.

An Ofcom spokeswoman said the scenes in one episode of the Channel 5 show, which aired in January, sparked 146 complaints.
