A FISH and chip shop will expand at the site of the last newsagent in Bourton-on-the-Water next month.

Around 50 protestors gathered around the newsagent in October 2016, including the village's Cotswold District Councillor Paul Hodgkinson, which was sited next to a fish and chip shop.

The plan submitted by Les De La Haye was originally rejected in December 2016, but was then given the go-ahead in the summer and it will now re-open at three times the previous size in March.

Mr De La Haye's son Lloyd, who will be responsible for the day-to-day running, said: "Due to such high demand and loyalty from existing customs and tourists alike we feel Bourton-on-the-Water and the surrounding area is ready for an all new fish and chip takeaway.

"Even though Bourton-on-the-Water has a huge influx of tourists, In 2017 10,710 people reported living in Bourton-on-the-Water.

"With so many other villages so close by we wanted to build something for local people not just cater to tourists.

"With this in mind we knew we had to do something special not just with top quality food but also with the building itself.

"Having raised awareness about the project through a controversial planning application for the new premises we have made it our mission to prove that De la Hayes fish and chips will be a great addition to the village with one of the nations most traditional dish’s in a beautiful traditional setting, Bourton-on-the-Water.

"With this in mind we decided to use a leading Fish and chip designer and shop fitter which we believe has created something quite unique in the Cotswolds with the clean lines you expect from a takeaway but also keeping a traditional feel to respect its location."
