JUDGES have gone potty for Wychavon’s public toilets after once again awarding them a string of top honours in the 2017 Loo of the Year Awards.

Run by the British Toilet Association, the awards rank loos provided by different organisations on a range of factors, which together make them clean, safe and hygienic.

Councils, hotels, shopping centres and more take part in the competition. Inspectors pay a visit to each toilet before issuing a bronze, silver, gold or platinum rating.

Far from being panned by critics, judges were gushing with praise for Wychavon’s 11 public loos in Broadway, Droitwich, Evesham and Pershore awarding them seven platinum and four golds.

Wychavon will officially be presented with the awards at a ceremony in December where they will also find out their place in the national league table and if we have been shortlisted for any national specialist category awards.

Cllr Emma Stokes, executive board member for environment on Wychavon District Council, said: “When people spend a penny in Wychavon they know they are getting much more than a bog standard experience. Huge thanks must go to our cleaning contractor Mitie for their hard work in keeping our toilets in top condition.”

Wychavon is currently investing £50,000 in refurbishing its public toilets including new sinks and separate hand dryers.

It is also introducing adult changing facilities in St Andrew`s Precinct, Droitwich and Viaduct meadow, Evesham. Work is expected to be complete by next spring.

The seven toilets which won platinum awards are Viaduct Meadow and Waterside in Evesham, Church Close and Broadway Activity Park in Broadway, High Street Car Park in Pershore, St Andrew's Square and Lido Park in Droitwich

The four toilets which won gold were Abbey Park and Oat Street in Evesham, Church Walk in Pershore and Milestone Ground Car Park in Broadway.
