"DEGRADING" jail conditions and assaults on prison officers – which left one with a broken leg – have led union members at HMP Hewell to protest over health and safety concerns.

Around 60 prison officers staged a 24-hour protest outside the Tardebigge jail today (November 15) after talks between the Prison Officers Association (POA) and the government broke down.

NEIGHBOURS have paid tribute to the tragic elderly woman who died in a house fire in Kingswinford last night (Monday, November 14).

Named locally as Edith Williams, she was found dead at her house in Catesby Drive just before 11.30pm by emergency services who has been called to the blaze.

COUNCIL bosses have confirmed the sale of the former Stourport Sports Centre this morning - for half a million pounds.

Wyre Forest District confirmed that the former leisure centre and its associated car parks have been sold to Riverside Caravan Park (Stourport) Limited for £500,000.

A STRETCH of Himley Park is now permanently off limits to those with four legs.

In February, Dudley Council introduced a temporary dog-free zone on the grassed area between the park's main entrance and the west gate.
