A MONTHLY craft session for children has celebrated its first birthday with a fun-filled party in Droitwich.

More than 100 people attended the party, including 67 children, to celebrate Messy's Church's first year of operation.

The popular Messy Church sessions at St Andrew's Church offer youngsters a chance to enjoy creating a variety of crafts.

At the party, guests celebrated the milestone in true Messy Church style by making party hats, streamers, bunting and much more.

Reverend Bev Jameson, team vicar at Droitwich Spa, Salwarpe and Hindlip with Martin Hussingtree and Dean of Women’s Ministry at the Diocese of Worcester, said: "I cannot believe Messy Church is a year old. We now have an average of 55 children coming every month. Together with mums, dads and other adults more than 100 people fill St Andrew's Church.

"The volunteers who help run messy church love it as much as the families do. There is a real buzz. It is a great way to meet one another form friendships, have a great time making crafts and hear about Jesus."

All the children who came along sang songs, enjoyed refreshments and were given a free goodie bag to take home.

Anne Clark, who has attended Messy Church with her daughters Ellie and Scarlet from its beginning, said: "The children love making the crafts, the songs and the bible stories, and so do I.

"It is also great to meet new people and make friends. We look forward to Messy Church every month."

The next Messy Church session will be held at the church in St Andrew's Street on Saturday, October 15.
