PEOPLE affected by dementia will be able to enjoy a special classical music performance.

Stratford’s Orchestra of the Swan will be performing a special show at Number 8 arts centre in Pershore on Wednesday, August 17 as part of an ongoing series of music workshops run by Wychavon District Council.

The workshops have been running for three years and have already covered a wide variety of musical genres, including a samba-inspired session back in May.

As well as enjoying the music, the audience will be encouraged to join in by clapping and singing along.

The performers will also give an insight into life as a professional musician, and also encourage those attending to share their memories and thoughts about favourite pieces of music.

Jenny Davis, arts development officer at Wychavon, said: “I’m delighted that these workshops and all of our musicians have committed to such an entertaining programme that will continue all the way into 2017.

"The feedback we’ve been receiving shows that the workshops have a very positive impact on people by reducing isolation, getting them involved and helping them to make new friends.”

The Orchestra of the Swan will perform from 1.30pm until 3pm. The workshop costs £2 to attend, to book call 01386 555488 or visit number8.org.

Upcoming workshops will see Deborah Rose and Remi Harris perform on September 21 and Ruby Swift perform on October 19.
