A MOUNTAIN rescue team discovered a body believed to be that of a missing man from Hallow, near Worcester.

Bill Barratt, 80, of Vicarage Close, Hallow, has yet to be formally identified but a body was pulled from the river Wye in Rhayader on Monday.

Dyfed-Powys Police found his car, a silver Volkswagen Polo, parked at Rhayader Rugby Club, They sought the help of both Mid and West Wales Fire Service and Brecon Mountain Rescue Team to help with the search for Mr Barratt who had been fishing.

Mr Barratt had been missing for two days before his car had been located and in that time river levels had risen and dropped sharply as a result of poor weather.

Fire service and mountain rescue personnel began a search of the River Wye and shortly afterwards a kayak search team from Brecon Mountain Rescue Team located a body in the river.

Mark Jones from Brecon Mountain Rescue Team said "This incident was an excellent example of inter agency cooperation and our thoughts are with Mr Barratt's family and friends during this difficult time."

He said the incident came during one of the charity-funded mountain rescue team's busiest periods with the volunteers attending 12 call outs in the past 10 days.
