ALVECHURCH continued their remarkable run in the FA Vase as they booked the Fourth Round for the first time ever.

A double for Karl Evans, who made it 20 goals for the season and, and one for Josh March saw the Lye Meadow outfit defeat Walsall Wood 3-0 set up a clash against either Handsworth Parramore or Cleethorpes Town away on January 9.

Manager Ian Long said: "I am so delighted for the club to have got this far, to reach the last 32 for the first time ever is huge for the club.

"I didn't think we played that well, the pitch was not great and a bit of a leveller and we had to be clinical."

The trip to either Cleethorpes of Sheffield-based Handsworth, who saw their clash rescheduled for last night after it was postponed at the weekend, is the fifth straight away tie in the competition for Alvechurch.

Long's troops have already defeated Pilkington XXX, Wisbech, AFC Bridgnorth and Walsall Wood away from home this season.

But victory over Walsall them stretch their unbeaten record in all competitions to 11 games and was their fifth win in a row.

New signing Nick Wright came off the bench to set up their third goal.

The striker has previously been at Rushall Olympic but has a very good pedigree, having previously played for Kidderminster Harriers in the Football Conference.

The 28-year-old scored 23 goals in 82 performance, including a memorable hat-trick against Newport County.

Long said: "Nick's arrival just adds extra quality to the forward line.

"We've got Karl Edwards, who is in great form for us at the moment, Jordan Nadat and Nick which is a high quality line-up.

"We've also got Connor Deards and Leigh Downing and Josh March chipping in as well, so we are well-stock with good players up front.

"Jack Cresswell is also the most technically gifted player we have at the club and we'd like him to score more goals."

Church closed the gap on Midlands Premier leaders Hereford after last week's 3-0 win at Westfields.

They face a vital game at third-placed Heanor on Saturday (3pm ko).

With the top four sides all in contention for the one promotion spot, this is a vital game for Church.

Long said: "This is a big game for both teams and I imagine that Heanor want a right a few wrongs.

"I don't think a draw will suit either side, so we'll be going for a win."
