REDROW Homes' amended plans for one section of the controversial Yew Tree Hill development will be revealed to the Droitwich public next week.

Councillors are urging people to come along to view an exhibition of the plans and make their concerns heard, particularly because the development has been so widely criticised in the town.

Outline planning permission has already been granted for the developement to the north of Pulley Lane, despite widespread opposition from local campaigners, who say the town's infrastructure will not be able to cope with the extra properties.

At the exhibition residents can see Redrow's revised reserved matters application detailing scale, appearance, general layout and landscaping of the development for 241 new homes, including areas of open space.

Droitwich Town Councillor Richard Morris, ward member for Droitwich South East, said: "I just urge residents, particularly those who live around where the development will be, to come forward and have a look at the plans and make sure they put their view across.

"Whilst we lost the appeal to stop the Yew Tree Hill development, it is now important that we concentrate our efforts on making sure that the proposals are of the highest quality.

"That's why we want as many people as possible to come along to view the plans and then make their comments ahead of our Planning Committee meeting.

"I will be there and hopefully they can have a conversation with me about it."

Cllr Maureen Lawley echo’s Cllr Morris' view.

In July last year, former Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles sparked outrage by defying campaigners and overturning a refusal by Wychavon District Council on developing the site.

As well as Droitwich South East, the Yew Tree Hill development stretches over the Lovett and North Claines ward, which is covered by councillors Tony Miller and Lynne Duffy.

Cllr Miller said: “We too would urge people from our ward to come and view the plans and make their views known ahead of the application going to our Planning Committee.”

A formal three week period of public consultation will commence shortly on the amended plans.

A spokesperson for Redrow said: “We’re inviting people to attend an exhibition at Droitwich Council Chamber so that they can learn more about the detail of our plans for new homes in the town.

"The land on Pulley Lane already had outline consent for housing when we acquired it and we have subsequently submitted a reserved matters application for 241 homes including two, three, four and five-bedroom designs from our Heritage Collection.

"Our proposals for the site also include around 7.5 hectares of open space with areas for play and sports, a large fruit orchard and natural meadows.”

Persimmon Homes, which is developing the other half of the site, has already been granted both outline and reserved matters planning permission for 265 homes to be built on land to the rear of Hill Top Farm, Newland Lane.

The entire estate will total more than 750 new homes once it is completed.

The exhibition will be open on Tuesday, December 15 from 4pm to 7pm at Droitwich Council Chamber, St Richard's House in Victoria Square.

It is likely that the Redrow Homes application (ref. W/15/01418/RM) will go to Wychavon’s Planning Committee in February or March 2016.
