ADELE has overtaken Oasis’s 18-year sales record with her latest album 25, as she claimed a new UK chart victory.

The Oscar-winning Skyfall singer’s third full-length record has sold 737,000 copies in the UK within its first week of release, surpassing Liam and Noel Gallagher’s Britpop band, who have held the record since 1997, according to the Official Charts Company.

However, Oasis continue to hold the sales record for the first three days with their third album, Be Here Now, which shifted 696,000 sales when it was released in August 1997.

BBC Three will be moved online next year – a change that could lead to an 80 per cent drop in viewers, the broadcaster’s governing body has said.

A financially motivated proposal to move the channel online was provisionally approved by the BBC Trust in June, and its fate has now been formally sealed.

The trust’s final decision will see the partial demise of the channel that brought hit shows including Gavin And Stacey and Don’t Tell The Bride to TV viewers.

IDRIS Elba has revealed how he almost died while shooting Beasts Of No Nation, when he slipped near a waterfall in Ghana.

The 43-year-old Luther star, who plays warlord Commandant in the Netflix film, admitted he had a lucky escape when his foot slipped off a rock and the branch he held on to snapped.

Recalling the incident on The Jonathan Ross Show, Idris said: “I nearly died.”
