GAME of Thrones has made the Guinness Book of Records for the largest TV drama simulcast.

This comes after episode two of season five was broadcast in 173 countries simultaneously.

Actress Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in the show, picked up the award on behalf of the show.

“So pleased for Game of Thrones to be a part of Guinness World Records, I’m not going to tell my step brother as he gets the book every year for Christmas,” she said. “I can’t wait to see the look on his face!”

Wes Craven, whose Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream movies made him one of the most recognisable names in the horror film genre, has died, aged 76.

Craven’s family said in a statement that he died at his Los Angeles home on Sunday after battling brain cancer.

A prolific writer, director and editor, Craven was credited with reinventing the teen horror genre with the 1984 release of A Nightmare on Elm Street starring a then-unknown Johnny Depp. The movie led to several sequels, as did his 1996 movie Scream.

X Factor judge Simon Cowell appeared to lose his composure as he watched an aspiring singer audition in Saturday night’s episode of the show.

The TV mogul didn’t comment on 21-year-old car mechanic Josh Daniel’s audition in Manchester, which also moved fellow judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini to tears with his emotional rendition of Jealous by Labrinth.

Explaining the choice of song, the Durham hopeful told the judges: “I lost my best friend a couple of years ago and I interpret the lyrics in a completely different way.”

The X Factor auditions at Event City in Manchester were postponed after the death of Simon’s mother on Sunday July 5.
