A DROITWICH-based group of supporters for Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is inviting the town’s residents to join them for a walk around nearby Monkwood Nature Reserve.

The volunteer-run group is re-launching itself following a change of committee earlier this year, and is organising the guided walk to help meet potential new members, as well as introducing more people to the nature reserve.

Committee member John Cristlelow, said: “We’re really looking forward to meeting everyone and what better way to start our season than with a walk around a local beauty spot.

“James Hitchcock, the member of Trust staff responsible for managing the reserve, will lead an enjoyable and informative walk around this ancient woodland.

“James has also agreed to join us afterwards for a chat about his work and maybe a drink or spot of food in a local hostelry. This part of the evening is entirely optional, of course!”

“Places on the walk are limited but this is not the case for our indoor meetings, which take place monthly from October, when the more the merrier are welcome.”

The Monkwood Nature Reserve, which is close to Holt, is known for its butterflies, and is jointly owned by Butterfly Conservation, as well as boasting two pools which are home to a number of dragonfly and damselfly species.

John added: “Walking in woodlands at any time of year is always a pleasure but we’re hoping for a warm September evening to give us chance to hear the birds, catch up with a few butterflies and enjoy savour the last of the summer’s flowers.”

The walk will be taking place on Monday, September 7, and the Droitwich supporters group will be holding monthly meetings on the second Monday evening of the month at the Methodist Church on Worcester Road from 7.30pm.

The guided walk is £3 per person and booking is essential. For more information or to book a place, call Sue Jenkins on 01527 821307.
