STAFF at a Droitwich hospital were celebrating recently as it reached its 30th anniversary.

Staff and friends at BMI Droitwich Spa celebrated with a steel band and a hog roast, as well as creating their own Worcester Black Pear tree sculpture out of clay.

Under tuition from the Flying Potter Jon Williams, of Eastnor Pottery, they modelled their own leaves, pears, and pieces of trunk, which will all be fired in a kiln before being constructed into a full sculpture to stand in the hospital’s reception area.

The hospital’s executive director, Jenny Liggitt, said: “We wanted to do something that absolutely everyone could be involved with and the making of an iconic Worcester Black Pear tree just seemed like a great way to achieve this.”

Staff members were encouraged to add their own personal details to the sculpture, so that each piece will be unique, and the work will now be unveiled as part of a special celebration in early September.
