THE Droitwich Summer Festival still has a week left to run with a whole host of treats still in store for people in the town

With St Andrew’s Square still bursting with colour form its weekend yarnbombing by the Rotary Club, and artists remaining in residence at Droitwich library until July 3, people feeling in the festival spirit will be able to enjoy a classical concert this Friday, from a young violinist living in Droitwich, Shulah Oliver, who is performing a concert in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The concert, which is taking place at St Andrew’s Church on Friday, July 3, will help toward Shulah’s target fundraising for the charity of £50,000, having already reached £45,000.

Entry is free, but there will be a collection, and the performance is due to begin at 7.30pm.

On Saturday, July 4 there will be a number of open air demonstrations and performances in Victoria Square from 10am to 4pm, with painting, needlework, drawing, soap making, weaving, ‘have a go’ opportunities, music, art displays and children’s activities, all with jazz band Swing 42 providing background atmosphere.

Then later in the evening local band Capital are holding another fundraising performance, this time at the Droitwich Spa British Legion to raise money for Droitwich Spa Football Club, which will help toward its 2015/16 season. Tickets are £5 on the door, and the band are being sponsored by the British Legion and 4 Shires Festivals to make sure all money from the door goes toward the football club.

There will also be a performance in St Andrew’s Church garden by Madcap Theatre of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 7pm, with the garden opening to the public from 5.30pm. Tickets are £12.50, and are available from Liz Ross on 01905 776696 or by writing to liz.ross48@btinternet.com.

Finally on Saturday, July 5 Lido Park will be taken over by the Big Picnic in the Park, with local musicians and bands performing from 11am, including Aymee Weir, Wilf's Carnival Ukulele Band, Polly Edwards and Oscar Bell.

Performances have also been added from Witton Middle School, and homegrown W Factor winner Loren Nichole who will be launching her first EP at the event.
