A DROITWICH couple is celebrating 60 years of marriage this month, with a congratulations card from the Queen.
Wyndham and Joy Burton met while they were both pupils at St Peter’s School, when Joy was 15, and Wyndham was 14. They were married seven years later at St Nicholas Church on June 11 1955.
Wyndham worked as a HP Everton Roadways, delivering sugar to local shops, while Joy worked as a shop assistant at Maypole in Worcester and Bromsgrove.
In their younger days they enjoyed ballroom and Latin American dance, they now enjoy drives in the countryside.
Joy said the secret of a happy marriage is “looking after each other. That’s what we always did, look after each other, and give and take.”
The couple have two children, Kevin and Karen, and two grown-up grandchildren Robert and Stuart. They marked their anniversary with a celebratory dinner and a party for members of the family.
