A DROITWICH-based quilting club is celebrating after marking 30 years of craft in the town.

The Saltway Quilters, were founded by a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild and a group of like-minded women in 1985.

The group started out with only seven members, but has grown over the years to now have more than 30.

As part of their ‘Pearl’ anniversary celebrations, the Saltway Quilters are organizing an exhibition of their work at Chawson Barn Community Hall in Droitwich on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, and members of the group have been busy creating a friendship quilt, which they plan to raffle at the exhibition.

The quilters will also be holding a special anniversary meeting and reunion on Wednesday, June 24, where members will be celebrating their Pearl anniversary at their meeting place in the Community Hall on Heritage Way.

Past members are being invited to join the reunion for a summer buffet and entertainment.

Chairman Fiona Davies, said: “We are a friendly group of ladies with a wide range of knowledge, ability and talent. We would welcome anyone who may be interested in starting to learn the basics of quilting and/or learning new quilting techniques to come and join us on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 7:30pm, when ‘Back to Basics’ sessions will be introduced.”

The Saltway Quilters have a wide range of abilities, from novice quilters to members with teaching qualifications, and a number of past and current members have exhibited quilts in regional and national exhibitions, winning a variety of awards.

The group meets every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm.
