A SCHOOL governor at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Droitwich is taking part in a fundraising challenge this week to cycle for four days around 10 different schools in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Oxfordshire, all called St Joseph’s.

Adrian Pledger, who is a finance governor at the school, left St Joseph’s in Droitwich on Tuesday, June 9 to set off on his challenge.

He is raising money for the school to purchase touch screen television units, which will be able to double up as classroom dividers in the school’s open plan classrooms, and reduce noise.

The units will also be able to host pull down dry wipe boards, with the touch screen TVs acting as an interactive board.

On his Just Giving fundraising site, Adrian said: “I am a governor of St Josephs school and also my two boys currently attend the school, Josh in year three and Rhys in reception class. Interactive whiteboards would make a huge difference to the learning of the children in the increasingly technological age. My aim is to make a difference for the children of the school today and in the future.”

The rest of the school is also doing their best to support Adrian in his cycling challenge, with a host of activities planned between June 9 and June 12.

Staff will be peddling furiously on exercise bikes set up in the playground, with donation buckets on hand, while the children will also have the opportunity to add some of their own miles to the effort, with the school attempting to match Adrian’s mileage by the time he returns.

In PE Lessons at the school the children will also be taking on challenges of their own, with key stage two pupils being invited to bring in their own bikes, trikes or scooters to add miles to the school’s efforts, which the key stage one pupils will also be able to use.
