HUNDREDS of residents in Bewdley were left without power today (Sunday, May 24) when a fallen tree damaged live cables.

Fire crews were called to Dowles Road shortly before midday at around 11.50am this morning and found the two cables had been downed by the tree.

Western Power said the power cut resulted in 1,400 of their customers, mostly thought to be residential properties, losing power.

A spokesman for the company said more than half of those saw power restored within 12 minutes while engineers were also called out to the scene following reports of the cables being down.

He added that around 97 per cent of the affected properties had power restored within an hour of the cut.

Repairs continue to the remaining 48 properties and Western Power anticipate they should be reconnected by around 5pm tonight.
