A DROITWICH businessman is taking on a cycling challenge which will see him pedalling the 330 miles from Droitwich, to Galway on the west coast of Ireland.

Hugh Daly is taking on the solo cycling challenge to raise money for a cause close to his heart, by donating every penny to two young girls with severe visual impairments, two-year-old Darcy Campbell from Droitwich, and 15-year-old Laura Murphy from Galway.

Hugh said: "I wanted to raise money for these two girls and not lose anything raised to administration costs.”

The 52-year-old businessman is planning to spend six full days cycling, starting his journey from outside the Sacred Heart Church in Droitwich on Sunday, May 24, before ending on Friday, May 29.

Hugh does still have concerns over the scale of the challenge. He added: “It is going to be a physical challenge as well as a mental one, especially as I will be riding alone.”

Hugh’s wife Deborah is also making the trip, staying within contact at all times, in case he runs into difficulties, and even carrying a spare bike to ensure that Hugh completes the trip.

He will be using a satellite navigation system to plan the route. He added: “The satnav has driven me nuts but after perseverance I seem to be understanding the quirks of its intricacies.”
