CANDIDATES have now been officially announced for the general election campaign in the Mid Worcestershire constituency.

Neil Franks from Droitwich is standing for the Green Party, Nigel Huddleston from Evesham is standing for the Conservatives, Richard Keel from Grafton Flyford, is standing for the UK Independence Party, Robin Lunn from Inkberrow is standing for Labour, and Margaret Rowley from Droitwich is standing for the Liberal Democrats.

The general election will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015, when people will be able to vote between the hours of 7am and 10pm before the results are announced on Friday, May 8.

There are only a few more weeks left for people who want to register their vote by proxy, or by post in either the general or local elections, both of which are taking place on Thursday, May 7.

Anyone wanting to cast a postal vote needs to register their vote by 5pm on Tuesday, April 21, while voters wanting to nominate another person to cast their vote for them, possibly because they are currently living overseas or in the Armed Forces, need to let the council know by 5pm on Tuesday, April 28 using the proper paperwork.

Elaine Dicks, electoral services manager at Wychavon District Council, said: “Postal and proxy voting are convenient ways of making sure your voice is heard even if you are unable to get to a polling station but the deadline for applications is fast approaching so anyone thinking of voting in this way should act without delay."

Application forms for voting by post or by proxy, are all available to download from the Wychavon District Council website at wychavon.gov.uk/elections, or alternatively people can call the elections team on 01386 565437 for more information.
