MEMBERS of Droitwich Youth Council are encouraging other young people in the town to vote in the upcoming General Election.
The number of people aged 18-24 who voted in general elections has fallen from 76 per cent in 1964, to 38 per cent in the 2005 election, and at the last election it was nearly half that.
The members of Droitwich Youth Council have been reminding young people in the town to make sure they are registered to vote before midnight on April 20, which is the cut off for the upcoming General Election.
Konnor Gethins, spokesperson for Droitwich Spa Youth Council, said: “I am looking forward to being able to vote in the next election and youth council members and I cannot understand why young people who can vote now don’t, we are so fortunate to live in a democracy.”
Young people can now use their smartphones to go online and register to vote, visit gov.uk/register-to-vote or call Wychavon District Council on 01386 565437. People registering for the first time will need to have their national insurance number and date of birth ready to prove their identity.
