PEOPLE will get the opportunity to find out all about the streets of Droitwich through the ages at an upcoming talk from Droitwich History and Archaeology Society.
The illustrated talk, which is called ‘Historic Droitwich: Its Streets and People, the story so far’, is being given by local historian Lyn Blewitt, and will cover some of the work done so far as part of the Dodderhill Parish Survey Project.
The project received a Heritage Lottery Grant of £35,000 in October 2013 to look at some of the oldest timber framed buildings in the centre of town, as well as looking into the history of the people who lived in them, and through work by both specialists and volunteers, the project has concentrated its efforts on a number of buildings in High street and Friar Street.
The work of the project has meant that it’s been possible to record the ages of the timbers used through dendrochronology, and evidence found in documentary research.
The three year project is now reaching its mid-way point, so the talk will cover the work conducted to date.
The talk is due to talk place on Wednesday, April 1 in the John Corbett Room of Droitwich Community Hall from 7.30pm. Entry is £2 for members, or £4 for friends and visitors.
