YOUNG apprentices from Droitwich have been offering a helping hand at a new education centre as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

A group of maintenance apprentices from Sanctuary Group, got to try out their DIY skills by taking on a range of jobs at Gloverspiece Minifarm near Worcester, which houses rescued animals, as well as offering activities for school and nursery children, older people, young offenders, groups and individuals with mental health issues, and people with learning or behavioural difficulties.

The apprentices spent five days recently installing a new kitchen and bathroom at the education centre, fitting plasterboard in internal rooms, and painting walls.

When it’s complete the centre will be used for school visits as well as training people in how to care for animals.

Sanctuary apprentice Luke Karol, said: “This experience is a great opportunity to improve my skills, but more importantly give something back to the community.

“Gloverspiece offers a fantastic service which has a positive impact on many people’s lives and I am pleased my support will help the farm continue to make a difference where it matters most.”

The activity was organised by Sanctuary Group in support of National Apprenticeship Week, which is an annual event celebrating the talents and skills of apprentices and the value of apprenticeship programmes.
