PEOPLE in Droitwich are being reminded that the deadline is approaching to register as a nominee in the upcoming local elections.

Anyone who wants to stand for election as a district, town or parish councillor on May 7 will have to have completed and returned a nomination form by 4pm on Thursday, April 9.

Elaine Dicks, electoral services manager at Wychavon District Council, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who is interested in standing for election as a councillor, whether it’s as a district, town or parish councillor. Filling in nomination forms is the first step towards becoming a councillor and representing your local area for the next four years, and we would urge anyone interested to give us a call if they have any questions.”

Anyone aged 18 or over can stand as a councillor, and people do not have to belong to a political party to stand, although most people do choose to do so. There is also the option of standing as an Independent candidate with no political affiliation.

Wychavon District Council has guidance and answers to frequently asked questions about becoming a councillor on its website at wychavon.gov.uk/elections, including a film showing what it’s like to be a councillor.

For more information on becoming a councillor, or to request a nomination form, call Wychavon’s elections team on 01386 565437, or write to elections@wychavon.gov.uk.

Forms need to be submitted by 4pm on Thursday, April 9, and a list of all the candidates standing for election will be published on the Wychavon District Council website from 4pm on Friday, April 10.
