PEOPLE in Droitwich have been marking Fairtrade fortnight with a coffee morning organised at the Methodist Church.

The town’s Fairtrade group organised the event to raise awareness for the need to support smallholder farmers, as well as raising money for the cause through UK Aid Match, a government scheme which matches money raised.

The coffee morning was supported by Droitwich mayor Bob Brookes and his wife Veronica, as well as town and district councillor Richard Morris.

Councillor Morris said: “I remember well when, as mayor in 2007 I received the certificate recognising Droitwich Spa as a Fairtrade town and to see more organisations supporting Fairtrade now, and the effort of those leading the campaign is terrific."

In total the coffee morning managed to raise £400.
