THE Droitwich Spa branch of the Rotary Club held a special evening recently to celebrate the 76th year of its charter in the town.

Droitwich mayor Bob Brookes attended as a guest of Rotary president Helen Karakashian, as well as presidents and representatives from six other Rotary Clubs and the Droitwich Spa Lions Club, and Probus Club.

Guests were entertained by a close up magician, and an ad-hoc choir gathered with everyone joining in with the chorus to Glory Glory Hallelujah.

The evening also included a link via Skype with Rotarian Jim Gillespie, who was visiting family in Dubai, to present him with the Paul Harris Fellowship, the highest honour in the Rotary organisation, and is given to is given to Rotarians who have given outstanding service to their club and community. His grandsons handed him the medal on their side of the link.

The evening also managed to raise £600 for stem cell research into myelin repair which is hoped will help people with MS and Dementia.
