WEBBS Garden centre is a buzz at the moment with plans to launch its bee-keeping course for another year.

The centre let professional bee-keeper Chris Broad set up eight hives in its Riverside Gardens two years ago, and they manage to produce hundreds of jars of honey, which is on sale in the Webbs food hall.

Mr Broad, who runs Saltway Honey with his wife Susan, is running the course to help out people keen on establishing their own hives, and he plans to answer all the questions a prospective bee-keeper might have, from the costs involved, to how much time is needed to manage a hive, suitable places to set up a hive, and some of the more common potential problems involved.

The course will run for three hours and it will take people out to the hives, with protective bee suits provided, as well as sitting down to go through some of the details of equipment involved, and where to go for more information.

Garden centre chairman Ed Webb, said: “There is a growing interest in keeping bees and the sessions were very popular last year. Chris Broad is an expert in the field and will pass on his enthusiasm and love for bee-keeping as well as his knowledge. It will give people a great insight into whether this is a hobby for them.”

The course is running on Sundays every month from April to September. For more information visit webbs.co.uk.
