GRITTERS will be out treating roads across Worcestershire this evening (Monday January 19).

Temperatures are set to plummet below zero again and could be as low as minus 7, prompting Worcestershire Highways gritting crews into action.

From around 6pm, a pre-wet salting on primary routes followed by secondary routes will start.

Cllr John Smith OBE, County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said "The gritting teams are well equipped having on-board technology fitted to all vehicles that calculates spread rates based on road temperatures, ensuring highways get the correct coverage, whilst at the same time reducing potential waste - saving the taxpayer money.

"Even so, as ever, we're urging people to take care and never to assume it's safe to travel at normal speeds, even when the roads have been gritted. It's just not worth the risk."

The County Council's Twitter account @worcscc is in #GritterTwitter mode and will continue to be updated with the latest on the teams work.
