WORCESTERSHIRE features quite heavily in the period in history following the Civil War, when Charles II was making his first failed bid to return to the UK.

Keen historians wanting to learn more about the escape he made after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester, will be able to find out all about his journey northwards on horseback, passing close to Droitwich.

Droitwich History and Archaeology Society is holding an illustrated talk called ‘The Great Escape – in the Footsteps of Charles II’ on Wednesday, January 7 where Sandy Cole will talk about the journey made by the king in exile, as he fled the battle, hotly pursued by his enemies, hiding in safe houses along the route, and taking on a variety of disguises before he safely escaped to France.

The talk is running from 7.30pm to 9pm in the John Corbett Room at Droitwich Community Hall.

Entrance is £2 for members, or £4 for friends and visitors.
