DROITWICH residents are being given the option to leave out two additional sacks of rubbish over the Christmas break, as well as additional sacks of recycling.

Residents who would usually have their waste collected between Monday, December 29 and Friday, January 9, will be able to add the extra bags to the waste they can have collected.

During the break, collection dates are being shifted back to accommodate the bank holidays with Thursday, December 25’s and Friday, January 1 collections moving to the following Mondays, and the collection for Friday, December 26 and Friday, January 2 to the following Tuesdays.

The Monday, December 29 and Monday, January 5 collection will move to Wednesday, the Tuesday, December 30, and Tuesday, January 6 collections will move to Friday.

From Monday, January 12 to Friday, January 16 collections will take place one day late, before returning to the normal schedule from Saturday, January 17.

Sharon Casswell, client services manager at Wychavon District Council, said: “Christmas is a hectic time for everyone and we don’t want people to get stuck with extra waste and recycling if they forget their Christmas dates have changed. Dates can also be looked up on our website and were publicised as usual in the Wychavon magazine.”

Calendars for household refuse collections throughout 2015 are also available at Wychavon’s website or can be collected from any of the Customer Contact Centres.

Sharon added: “We decided to trial not distributing a calendar to every household this year due to the expense plus the information is really easy to get hold of on our website. For those that aren’t online, copies can be collected from Customer Contact Centres in the three towns.”

People wanting to dispose of real Christmas trees in the new year, can take them to their local Household Recycling Centre or if possible, they can be chopped up and put out in garden waste bins for collection.
