THIS year Droitwich Spa is getting its very own Christmas market with a launch from a glamorous lady in the form of panto dame Dotty Dooright.

The market, which is a pilot project from the town council, is set to open on Saturday, December 20 with log cabins dotted around Victoria Square creating a festive atmosphere, with everything from crafts and gifts to sweet German treats.

Dotty is taking the lead in the town’s production of Sleeping Beauty at the Norbury Theatre over Christmas.

Town mayor, councillor Bob Brookes said: “To celebrate the start of a new venture – Droitwich's very own Christmas Market, there will be a real Christmas delicacy, Schokoküsse, (chocolate kisses) directly from Germany. Our own Norbury Theatre is getting ready for this year's Panto so having a real ‘Dame’, Dotty Dooright, to open the event was just too good an opportunity to miss.”

If the mayor has managed to keep the Schokoküsse away from Dame Dooright, the market will be holding an official opening at 10am on Saturday, December 20, and it will be running all day every day up to and including Christmas Eve.

Fans of Dotty, who is played by David Hatfield, will be able to catch her at the Norbury Theatre in Sleeping Beauty from January 9. For more information, call 01905 770154 or visiting norburytheatre.co.uk.
