MEMBERS of Droitwich Spa Angling Club netted more than £300 for charity recently with a competition on the restored Droitwich canal.

45 people took part in the angling competition, which was organised in memory of long term member of the club Ted Gibbs, and raised money for St Richard’s Hospice.

Mr Gibbs lived in Droitwich for 40 years, working as an inspector at Droitwich company Deritend Ltd (also known as Doncasters Precision Castings). He was cared for at St Richard’s Hospice before his death in 2013, and his family were delighted when the club suggested the fundraising competition.

Mr Gibbs’ son Mark Gibbs, said: “My daughter Ella, myself and the whole family would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition and raised such a fantastic amount of money to help St Richard’s look after other patients and their families. We’d also like to thank the staff at the Pillar of Salt, who supported us on the day.”

The winner was a friend of Mr Gibbs, mike Sparks, who managed to catch 12lbs 15oz of perch and silverfish from the newly-restored canal.

Overall the competition raised £325 for the charity.
