SCOUT and guide groups in Droitwich are appealing for more volunteers to help out and support the increasing demand from local youngsters to join.

3rd Droitwich Socuts and Guides, which includes Beavers, Cubs, Rainbows and Brownies is currently bursting at the seams with a waiting list of children and young people waiting to join.

The popular troop gives young people the chance to try new adventures and experience the outdoors, as well as interacting with others, and gaining confidence.

People over the age of 18 are being asked to spare a few hours to come and attend an introductory session being organised at St Richard’s House in Droitwich, where they can find out all about volunteering for the movement, and how it might fit around work and family commitments.

No experience is necessary, as full training and support are provided, and help doesn’t even have to be weekly, it can be as part of a committee or preparation for events.

Droitwich town councillor Richard Morris, chairman of Droitwich Area Young People’s Action Group, said: “It is a real shame when we have youngsters who wish to join any of the Scout and Guide movements and we cannot support them because we do not have enough volunteers. I urge adults over 18 who can spare a little time to attend the meeting and find out more.”

Volunteers will learn new skills and gain experience which can be added to a CV, and anyone over the age of 18 is welcome.

The introductory session is taking place on Wednesday, November 12 between 6pm and 7pm when people can drop in for a chat about volunteering.

Anyone who is interested, but isn’t able to make the session, can contact Councillor Morris for further information by writing to richmoz@hotmail.com.
