Concerts at Norton Barracks – Worcester people are giving splendid assistance to the hundreds of troops at the Barracks in the YMCA Tent, and this week no fewer than four first rate entertainments have been held.
On Monday evening, Miss Southwell’s party gave a capital programme of songs and recitations and fairly delighted the men.
On Tuesday, Mr R.G. Malcolm, magician, and his assistant Master E.F. Derbyshire gave a really clever conjuring performance which evoked frequent cheers.
During the evening, Mr H.E. Smith, the YMCA District Supervisor, gave a stirring address to the men.
On Wednesday evening, Mr Ivor Atkins, the Worcester Cathedral Organist and Choirmaster, was responsible for a capital concert at which he kindly acted as accompanist.
There was a fine array of singers and musicians including Mr Edgar Day, the Assistant Cathedral Organist who sang five songs.
A party from Malvern under Dr Dixey gave Thursday’s superb concert.
Much credit is due to Mr Charlton Jones of the Worcester YMCA through whom the concerts are arranged, the last being the 15th since the war started.
One of Malvern’s public motor buses has been commandeered by the War Office with the result that some services in the town have been curtailed.
