FORMER England cricketer Ashley Giles, who now lives in Droitwich, is preparing for a trip to Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for charity.
The trip, which has been organised by the professional cricketers association, will see a number of former cricketers climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to play the world’s highest cricket match.
The Cotswold Outdoor store in Droitwich helped toward the expedition by donating £200 worth of kit for Mr Giles to help him on his way with the epic climb, and he came into the store recently to have his feet measured and boots fitted for the trek.
Both teams of cricketers will be spending six days climbing 5,875 metres up the mountain, to just below its summit, where they will spend the day playing a cricket match in the giant crater before walking all the way down.
The trip is raising money for Cancer Research UK, the Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation and Tusk, which helps African wildlife.
