MORE than £1 million is due to be invested in Droitwich Leisure Centre following a decision at last night’s meeting of Wychavon District Council’s executive committee.

The committee voted in favour of improvements to the centre valued at £1.1 million, which will see the reception area and circulation space refreshed, the wet and dry changing areas, toilets and showers improved, health and fitness provisions increased, and the spa expanded and refurbished.

Speaking after the meeting, Richard Morris board member for community, leisure and culture, said: “I’m very pleased that we can jointly fund this investment with Wychavon Leisure. These improvements will offer facilities which are as good as those in Evesham and Pershore which is great news for the town.”

The additional gym and spa areas will be created after the construction of a mezzanine floor in the squash court next to the one previously converted. The spa will be on the ground floor and the gym extension will be on the first floor level.

The changing spaces will see have their current cubicles, toilet and showers overhauled, with promises of a strong modern interior design approach being used to update the reception, existing gym and circulation spaces.

Work is due to start on the centre’s improvements in April 2015.
