A DROITWICH woman is to host a fundraising event in Bromsgrove in aid of the charity, Bowel Cancer UK.

Margaret Vickers, 56, is organising a quiz night along with help from family, friends and colleagues following the death of her husband Bob who lost his battle with the disease on July 10.

The event will take place at Avoncroft Arts Centre on Saturday, September 13 at 7.30pm.

A raffle with prizes including tickets to see comedian Jasper Carrot at the Palace Theatre in Redditch and a spa day for two with treatments and lunch will be put on.

Margaret, said: “I wanted to do this fundraising event to raise sponsorship for a 55km five day Great Wall of China trek I’m doing in October 14 in memory of Bob, but also to make a difference for such an important cause at the same time.

“Bob showed great courage and determination throughout his illness and his positive and optimistic attitude to life was a great inspiration to everyone who knew him.”

So far, Margaret has raised nearly £1,000 - around half the amount needed for the trek by holding car boot sales.

She has also organised a bag pack and bucket collection on Sunday, September 14 at Morrisons in Bromsgrove.

Each year, more than 40,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer and an excess of 15,700 people die of the disease.

Dani Freedland, head of community and events for Bowel Cancer UK, said: "Without people like Margaret doing amazing fundraising events like this, Bowel Cancer UK couldn’t continue to do the vital work it does to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer.”

Margaret aims to raise at least £5,000 for the charity over the coming year by arranging more charity events.

Entry is £5 per person and includes a light buffet supper with soft drinks. Team members can bring their own alcoholic drinks.

To make a booking for the quiz night and register your team, contact Margaret on: 07976 751385 or email margvickers@outlook.com.

Teams can have a maximum of six members.
