A DROITWICH resident has been celebrating her 100th birthday this weekend with a party for staff and residents at Westmead Care Home in the town.

Elsie Tattersall has lived in Droitwich for the past five years, moving from Ludlow in Shropshire to be closer to her family.

Mrs Tattersall was born on August 24, 1914 in Smethwick in the West Midlands to parents Alice and Fred Baldwin and she is the only still surviving of four siblings.

She grew up in the West Midlands, marrying family friend Eric Tattersall in 1966, and enjoying a happy marriage with him until his death in 1990.

Mrs Tattersall gave away her secret for a long and happy life as “Living day by day, never knowing what is round the corner and having a positive attitude towards life.”

She said: “I am grateful for reaching a great age with all of my faculties, many good friends and a good family.”

The home’s manager Sue Stokes said: “Elsie is a marvellous and extremely independent lady and we are so proud to be celebrating this special birthday with her.

“Elsie has a warm smile and always has a girlish giggle for everyone she knows and is truly part of our family here at Westmead.”
