DROITWICH residents are about to be contacted about major changes taking place within the electoral registration system.

Approximately 93,000 people across the district are either being sent letters or visited by canvassers to explain that a new, more secure system of Individual Electoral Registration will soon be taking over from the previous system which had been in place for nearly 100 years, where the head of the household was responsible for ensuring everyone was registered to vote.

Many of the residents will be moving over to the new system automatically , but some may need to take action to join or remain on the register.

Elaine Dicks, electoral services manager, said “Residents will receive a letter during August 2014 that will explain the change to the electoral registration system. Look out for the letter as it will tell you if you have been automatically transferred to the new register or not. If you have not been transferred, you will need to provide some additional information, and the letter will tell you exactly what you need to do.”
