POLICE in Droitwich are appealing for witnesses to an assault which took place in the town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning last weekend.

The incident occurred at approximately 12.40am on Sunday, July 27 outside the Star and Garter pub on the junction of High street, Friar Street and St Andrews Road.

A 42-year-old man was standing outside the pub when a heated discussion began.

He was knocked to the ground unconscious, and was possibly assaulted further, suffering severe head and facial injuries.

The man was taken for medical treatment at Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry.

A number of people are believed to have been present at the time of the incident, and police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the assault, in particular a family with children who were passing the scene.
