CHILDREN at Westacre Middle School were feeling very arty toward the end of term with a school-wide competition and a chance to pick up some new skills.

Over the past few months, the students took part in an art exhibition along the theme of ‘summer time’ to get them ready for the holidays.

Pupils throughout the school submitted their artwork for the exhibition in the school hall, before it was judged by Wychavon District Council chairman Lynne Duffy, who named year seven pupil Kye Poole the winner for his 3D sculpture of a barbecue.

Keeping with the artistic theme at the school, children also had the chance to try out some different artistic methods with a Dabble Day, where they got to choose three artistic activities to try from a choice of 20.

Working in mixed year groups, the children moved around the school and all had a go at five of the activities on offer, which included everything from calligraphy, and decoupage, to life drawing, golf, singing and dancing.

Year five pupil Jack Stirzaker, said: “It was a super day, I really enjoyed dabbling in activities I had not done before -in particular Stop animation, as I learnt skills I will use in the future.”
