DROITWICH MP Sir Peter Luff has been trying his hand at computer coding, as part of an event at the House of Commons earlier this month.
School pupils from across the country were invited to the ‘Girls Get Coding’ event, which was organised by the Parliamentary Internet, Communications and Technology Forum (PICTFOR) to show off their ICT skills.
As part of the event MPs were also given the opportunity to learn the basics of computer coding, so they could see how valuable a skill it is in the job market.
Sir Peter said: “It is so important that all school students learn computer programming and this event was a great opportunity for me to show me the basics.
“The pupils that taught me were full of enthusiasm and made excellent teachers.
“We have a serious shortage of people with these vital computer coding skills, and in particular a lack of girls, so it was great to see so many girls so passionate about coding.
“I hope that more and more pupils will learn coding at school and then go on to use these skills in the future and plug the skills gap that we currently have in this country.”
