FIREFIGHTERS were called to a park in Droitwich after a large hole mysteriously appeared.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2.15pm today (Saturday) to Vines Park, Saltway Road, after a couple of residents alerted them to the one sqm hole which appeared on the canalside bank.

They made the area safe and handed it over to Wychavon District Council's highways team.

It is not yet known what caused the hole to appear and there have been no reported injuries.

Watch Commander Chris Jelfs, of Droitwich Fire Station, said: "A young lad had walked across the park and put his foot in it.

"We made an initial assessment of the area and cordoned it off and requested representatives from the local authority. They are arranging barriers to be put in place."

Surely everyone already knew about the hole next to the Droitwich Canal? It's called Droitwich.

Seems pretty deep, i threw in a railway sleeper i found close by and didnt hear the bottom. Then a dog ran up and jumped in which was odd. On the way back to the car some guy asked me if i had seen his dog, but he was certain it wasnt the one that jumped down the hole because he had apparently tied it safely to a railway sleeper. Some irresponsible dog owners these days :-/

If the pay in the public sector is so vast why are you not working in it?

Perhaps you are incapable?
